WhatsApp, owned by Meta, is set to roll out a range of new features. Among these upcoming features are offline sharing and the introduction of usernames. These will initially be tested in the beta version.
WhatsApp 5 new Features: With millions of users globally, WhatsApp stands as the most popular messaging platform in the world and consistently introduces new features. Before rolling out new features to all users, WhatsApp tests them in its beta version. There are numerous features currently under testing that will soon be integrated into the stable version. We’ve compiled a list of these upcoming features for you.
Username instead of phone number
WhatsApp users typically need to share their phone numbers to start chatting, but this will soon be replaced by usernames. Users will be able to set a unique username, which will allow them to chat and connect with others on the app without sharing their phone number. Signs of this upcoming feature have been found in the WhatsApp web version.
Offline File Sharing
WhatsApp, owned by Meta, will soon feature a capability that functions without the need for the internet. Inspired by Apple’s AirDrop, the app will introduce an offline file sharing option. Named Nearby Share, this feature is being tested in the beta version and will facilitate the fast transfer of large files.
Chat translation option
WhatsApp is set to enable users to translate messages in chats using Google’s live translation technology. The translation will occur on the device itself, without sending messages to the cloud. Indications of this feature have been found in the Beta for Android version 2.24.15.8.
Editing via Meta AI
Meta AI, powered by artificial intelligence, has recently become available to users in the app. This generative AI tool enables interactions via a chatbot format. Recent clues from WhatsApp Beta for Android version 2.24.14.20 reveal that photo editing capabilities using Meta AI will be introduced soon, and work on this feature is in progress.
Visual themes with multiple colors
WhatsApp is introducing new customization options allowing users to modify themes and color languages according to their personal preferences. The beta version hints at the availability of five new color themes for selection. The option to choose default chat themes has been seen in Beta for iOS version 24.12.10.77.
