Driving Licence: As the calendar flips to a new month, so too does the tapestry of rules and laws governing our lives undergo a transformation. Commencing June 1, 2024, significant revisions have been introduced to various statutes, poised to impact us collectively. Let’s examine the ripple effects of these legislative modifications.
New rules for driving licence
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has introduced fresh rules governing the acquisition of driving licenses. Under the new guidelines, individuals must undertake their tests at private driving training centers. Previously, these tests were exclusively conducted at Regional Transport Office (RTO) offices. All of these centers will be accredited by the government, empowering them to conduct examinations and issue certificates.
Removal of old vehicles
Under the new rules, the government intends to phase out around 9 lakh old vehicles as part of efforts to control pollution.
Penalty for underage drivers
If a minor is caught driving, they will be fined ₹25,000. Additionally, the vehicle owner’s registration will be cancelled. Moreover, the minor will not be able to obtain a driving license for up to 25 years.
Aadhaar Card Update
If you wish to update your Aadhaar card, make sure to do so by June 14. Online updates are free of charge, but for offline updates, a fee of ₹50 will be applicable.
