Railway news: New Delhi is witnessing enhanced connectivity across Delhi-NCR and its neighboring areas through expressways, highways, and metro networks. Initiatives are underway to strengthen the rail network between major industrial hubs in Haryana, such as Manesar, Palwal, and Kharkhoda, to facilitate smoother passenger and cargo transportation.
The ambitious Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor project has commenced with robust efforts. Upon completion, this corridor is set to transform the landscape of cities like Manesar, with an estimated expenditure of around ₹5,700 crore for the construction of this 126-kilometer railway line. Parallel to the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway, this corridor aims to integrate towns like Nuh, Sohna, Manesar, and Kharkhoda into the railway network.
The Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor will stretch from Palwal Railway Station to Harsana Kalan Railway Station in Sonipat. This project will directly benefit five districts: Palwal, Gurugram, Nuh, Jhajjar, and Sonipat. Construction of this railway line has commenced near Farukhnagar Toll Plaza, located near the Sohna-Revwadi Road (NH919) interchange.
Work is also underway to connect the Maruti-Suzuki plant in Manesar to the Delhi-Rewari section. Additionally, construction has begun on a 4.88-kilometer-long tunnel within this corridor.
5 crore tonnes of freight will be transported every day
The Haryana Rail Orbital Corridor will facilitate the transportation of 5 crore tons of goods daily through freight trains. Trains on this railway track will operate at speeds of up to 160 kilometers per hour. The tunnels being constructed on the corridor are designed to accommodate double-stack containers effortlessly, with a tunnel height of 11 meters. Approximately 665.92 hectares, equivalent to about 1665 acres of land, from 67 villages in Sonipat, Jhajjar, Gurugram, and Palwal districts, have been acquired for this project.
Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor Route
The Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor (HORC) will connect Palwal to Sonipat via Sohna, Manesar, and Kharkhoda. This broad gauge double railway line, being constructed for passenger and freight transportation, will integrate with the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) at Prithla Station.
Additionally, it will provide connectivity to other railway lines at Palwal, Pataudi, Sultanpur, Asaudha, and Harsana Kalan stations. With the launch of the Orbital Rail Corridor, Sonipat and Kharkhoda will establish direct rail connectivity with Gurugram, Manesar, Sohna, Faridabad, and Palwal. Currently, trains have to transit through Delhi to reach these destinations.
