Reserve Bank of India has shared new information regarding the Rs 2000 note.
2000 Rupee Note: Once again the central bank Reserve Bank of India has shared new information regarding the 2000 rupee note. RBI has given information about those notes which have been returned to the bank so far. Apart from this, it has also given information about those notes which are still present with the people.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said on Monday (1 July 2024) that 97.87 percent of the two thousand rupee notes have returned to the banks. Notes worth Rs 7,581 crore withdrawn from circulation are still with the people. RBI had announced the withdrawal of bank notes worth Rs 2000 from circulation on 19 May 2023.
What did RBI say?
The total value of Rs 2000 denomination bank notes in circulation was Rs 3.56 lakh crore at the close of business on 19 May 2023. It came down to Rs 7,581 crore at the close of business on 28 June 2024. The central bank said in a statement, “Thus, as of 28 June 2024, 97.87 percent of Rs 2000 bank notes have returned to the banks.”
Till 7 October 2023, the facility to deposit and/or exchange Rs 2000 banknotes was available in all bank branches across the country. From 19 May 2023, the facility to exchange Rs 2000 banknotes has been available in 19 issue offices of the Reserve Bank. RBI offices are also accepting Rs 2000 notes from people and institutions for depositing them in their bank accounts from 9 October 2023. Apart from this, people are sending Rs 2000 banknotes from any post office in the country to any RBI office for depositing them in their bank accounts.
In which RBI branches can 2000 rupee notes be deposited
The 19 RBI offices that deposit/exchange banknotes are located in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Belapur, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Patna and Thiruvananthapuram. Let us tell you that 2000 rupee notes were introduced in November 2016 after the withdrawal of 1000 and 500 rupee banknotes in circulation at that time.
