Why is petrol and diesel so expensive?
According to the official website of Indian Oil Corporation Limited, petrol is being sold at Rs 94.72 per liter in Delhi. Let’s understand its calculation… The base price of one liter was Rs 55.46. The cost of freight was 20 paise. Excise duty of Rs 19.90 was added to this. Then dealer commission of Rs 3.77 was also added. Apart from this, VAT of Rs 15.39 was charged. In this respect, the price of petrol became Rs 94.72.
The diesel prices on the government company’s website are computed as follows: the base price stands at Rs. 56.20. To this, a surcharge of 22 paise is added. Excise duty contributes Rs. 15.80. Subsequently, an average dealer commission of Rs. 2.58 applies. Moving forward, VAT of Rs. 12.82 is imposed. Accordingly, customers are charged Rs. 87.62 per liter of diesel.
