Indian Railways: Western Railway has imposed a fine of over Rs 52 crore during the intensive ticket checking campaign from April to June 2024.
Indian Railways: People always use Indian Railways for long and comfortable journey in the country. Most people give it preference due to being economical. But still many people travel without ticket in the train. Railways also issues awareness messages for such people from time to time. Traveling without ticket by train is not only wrong, but it is also a law offense, for which there is a provision of fine, jail or both.
Railways is running ticket checking campaign
Intensive ticket checking campaigns are being conducted continuously to curb ticketless/irregular passengers in Mumbai suburban local trains, mail/express as well as passenger trains and holiday special trains to ensure comfortable travel and better services to all legitimate passengers on Western Railway.
Several ticket checking campaigns were conducted during April to June, 2024 by the highly motivated ticket checking team under the supervision of senior commercial officers of Western Railway, which earned an amount of Rs 52.14 crore, including Rs 14.63 crore received from Mumbai suburban section.
In June, Railways imposed a fine of ₹14 crore
According to a press release issued by Western Railway CPRO Vineet Abhishek, during June 2024, 2.25 lakh ticketless/irregular passengers including cases of unbooked luggage were detected and an amount of Rs 14.10 crore was recovered. Apart from this, in June, Western Railway detected more than 1 lakh cases on Mumbai suburban section and collected a fine of Rs 4.35 crore.
₹43 lakh recovered from AC local trains
Regular surprise ticket checking campaigns are conducted to prevent unauthorized travel in AC local trains. As a result of these campaigns, about 13000 unauthorized passengers have been fined from April to June, 2024 and about Rs 43.64 lakh was recovered as fine.
