Weather Updates: Ganga, Ramganga, Sharda, Rapti, Saryu and Gandak rivers have overflowed due to the water being released from Nepal. Due to this, the flood situation in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar became serious on Monday.
IMD Rainfall Alert: Heavy rains caused devastation from the mountains to the plains on Monday. Two people died at different places in Uttarakhand, while three went missing after being swept away by strong currents. In Uttar Pradesh, rivers are in spate due to torrential rains continuing for a week and water being released from Nepal. 15 people have died in the state due to drowning and lightning.
Due to the rising water level of rivers in Bihar, low-lying areas of seven districts were flooded, in which a young girl died due to drowning. Due to several incidents of landslides in various parts of Himachal Pradesh, more than 70 roads including a highway had to be closed. On the other hand, many low-lying areas in Goa were submerged due to torrential rains for the third consecutive day. Three people died in a wall collapse incident in Kundaim Industrial Estate amid heavy rains in North Goa. Five people have died in two days.
Uttarakhand: Situation out of control in the Terai region of Kumaon
In Uttarakhand, the situation was seen to be out of control due to heavy rains in the Terai region of Kumaon on Monday. Many areas in Khatima and Sitarganj of Udham Singh Nagar district were submerged in floods. In Khatima, two youths died due to drowning while trying to save the flood-affected people. At the same time, a youth was swept away in the river in Shakti Farm and a girl in Banbasa was swept away in the drain. In Dehradun, a 17-year-old girl was swept away in Bindal river. The search for the three missing persons is ongoing.
NDRF and SDRF teams were engaged till evening to rescue the people trapped in the flood. Nearly 500 people were rescued in Khatima till evening. Jasari-Patpura bridge in Khatima was washed away in the strong current of flood water. Waterlogging occurred due to damage to Sharda canal in Nagara. Children got trapped amid waterlogging in Rajiv Gandhi Navodaya Vidyalaya Khatima.
Families from Arvindnagar were evacuated by boats and taken to safer places. 65 families got trapped in the flood of Devha river in Bichua of Nanakmatta. Rail traffic in Kumaon was also affected due to waterlogging on railway lines at many places including Kathgodam. More than 50 cattle died due to waterlogging in Tanakpur-Banbasa of Champawat district.
The hanging bridge built in 1994 over the Kwairaala river in Belkhet along the national highway near Chalthi collapsed in the strong current of the river. More than 500 mm of rain was recorded in Champawat in 24 hours. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has instructed the officials to remain on high alert.
Badrinath highway opens
The journey to Badrinath and Hemkund Sahib in Uttarakhand resumed smoothly on the second day on Monday. The obstructed highway between Joshimath and Badrinath opened at 6.30 am on Monday in Vishnuprayag, but was closed at Ghudsil near Hanuman Chatti.
Chardham Yatra continues smoothly
Garhwal Divisional Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey said that the Chardham Yatra continues as usual. All the District Magistrates have been instructed to remain alert as per the forecast of the Meteorological Department. Travelers are also requested to avoid traveling whenever it rains or the weather is unfavorable and stay in a safe place.
Uttar Pradesh: Rivers overflow due to rain
Due to the water being released from Nepal, Ganga, Ramganga, Sharda, Rapti, Saryu and Gandak rivers have overflowed. Due to this, the flood situation in UP and Bihar became serious on Monday. Rapti river has submerged many villages of Balrampur and Shravasti. At the same time, as soon as water was released into the Sharda river from Banbasa Barrage early Monday morning, there was a disaster in Pilibhit and Lakhimpur districts.
The culvert built on the newly constructed Mala-Shahgarh route in Pilibhit was washed away in the water. The entire railway track hung in the air. At the same time, due to the road being cut in Kalinagar and Barkheda, many villages have lost contact with the district headquarters. Due to continuous rain and floods, two children in Balrampur, one youth each in Ayodhya and Sitapur drowned in the water. Three people drowned in the overflowing drain in Faridpur tehsil of Pilibhit.
The culvert built on the Mala-Shahgarh road in Pilibhit was washed away in the water. Here the entire railway track is hanging in the air. On the other hand, the special train going from Dehradun to Tanakpur was short terminated in Pilibhit while the train going from Tanakpur to Mathura via Pilibhit was cancelled. At the same time, 11 battalions of NDRF have put teams on alert for rescue and relief from flood dangers. The soldiers of the battalion will take command of 42 districts of the state including Varanasi.
Bihar: Seven districts affected by floods due to rise in rivers
Due to the rise in the water level of Gandak, Kosi, Bagmati and Mahananda rivers, flood water has spread in the low-lying areas of seven districts of North and East Bihar. However, people have heaved a sigh of relief due to the decrease in the water level of Kosi and Gandak on Monday. But, there is a danger of erosion due to this. A young woman died due to drowning in flood water in Kadhan village of Kesaria in East Champaran.
Gandak water has entered more than a dozen villages of West and East Champaran. At many places, water is flowing up to two feet on the roads. About two hundred families of Yogapatti block of West Champaran are surrounded by the flood in Gandak. Apart from this, the water of Gandak has spread in Chakdahva, Jhandu Tola, Kailashnagar and Madhubani block of Valmikinagar.
Studies have come to a halt due to flood in half a dozen schools of Kesaria in East Champaran. Traffic on roads has also come to a halt at many places. Road connectivity of many hamlets of Dhekha Panchayat has been disrupted. Due to the spread of Kosi water, about 10 thousand population of four panchayats of Kusheshwarsthan East block of Darbhanga and people of a dozen villages of Madhepur in Madhubani are affected. There is a yellow alert for heavy rain on Tuesday in seven districts of the state.
Immediate help should be provided to flood victims: Nitish Kumar
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has directed to provide immediate help to the flood victims. The Chief Minister on Monday conducted an aerial survey of the water level of rivers from Gopalganj to Valmikinagar. During this, he conducted an aerial survey of West Champaran, East Champaran and Gopalganj districts.
Himachal: Roads blocked due to rain and landslides
Officials said that the Shimla-Kinnaur road (National Highway 5) has been blocked near Nathpa sliding point in Kinnaur district. Traffic is banned on 31 roads in Mandi, 26 in Shimla, four each in Sirmaur and Kinnaur, two each in Hamirpur and Kullu and one in Kangra district. 84 transformers and 51 water schemes have also been affected. The Regional Meteorological Office has issued a yellow alert, predicting heavy rain, storm and lightning at different places on July 11-12.
Jammu and Kashmir: Mughal Road blocked due to landslide
Mughal Road, the alternate route connecting Kashmir to the rest of the country in Poonch district, was blocked due to heavy landslides on Monday. Officials said that the landslide damaged the road near Panar bridge in Surankot area, cutting off connectivity between the border districts of Poonch and Rajouri in Jammu region and Shopian district of South Kashmir.
Goa: Many areas submerged
Goa has been receiving heavy rainfall since Saturday. The Meteorological Department has issued an Orange alert and predicted moderate to heavy rainfall with strong winds blowing at a speed of 40 to 50 kmph at many places in North and South Goa districts. Panaji recorded the highest rainfall of 360 mm in 24 hours.
Rajasthan: Heavy rain at many places in Bharatpur-Dausa
The activity of the southwest monsoon continues in Rajasthan and rain continues in many areas. In the last 24 hours, the highest rainfall of 91 mm in the state was recorded in Bandikui. According to the Meteorological Center, Jaipur, in the last 24 hours, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thundershowers has been recorded at some places in the state and heavy rainfall has been recorded at some places in Bharatpur and Dausa districts.
