How to apply Passport: Passport is a very important document for Indian citizens, which is useful for them when traveling abroad. Even if you are not traveling abroad, you should have a passport so that it can be used as an identity. You can easily apply for a passport by visiting this https://www.passportindia.gov.in website. For this you have to follow the steps given below.
Step 1: Registration
First of all you have to register on the passport service portal. To do this, you have to give the information given below,
- Name
- Date of birth
- Gender
- Mobile number
- Email address
Step 2: Login
Once you are registered, you can log in to the portal using your login ID and password.
Step 3: Fill the application form
After logging in, click on ‘New Application’ and select ‘Fill-up New Application’. You will have to provide your personal details, address, education, occupation and travel details here.
Step 4: Upload documents
You will have to scan and upload the required documents as proof of your identity, address and nationality. The required documents include,
- Birth certificate
- Residence certificate
- Aadhaar card
- Voter ID card
- Driving license
- Bank passbook
- Electricity bill
- Photograph
Step 5: Pay the fee
You will have to pay the application fee online using credit card, debit card, net banking or UPI.
Step 6: Schedule an Appointment
You need to schedule an appointment at the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) to submit your passport application. You can choose the PSK and date as per your convenience.
Step 7: Appear at the PSK
On the day of your appointment, you will have to appear at the PSK with all the required documents. You will also have to provide your biometric information (fingerprints and eye scan).
Step 8: Collect the passport
Your passport will be ready within 15-20 working days of submitting your application. You can collect it by visiting the PSK or by post.
You can also apply for an ‘instant’ passport, which is issued within 3-4 days. However, you will have to pay an additional fee for this. Apart from this, you can also track the status of your application on the portal.
