Google rolled out Android 15 beta 3 on Tuesday. This will prove to be a big step in Google’s upcoming update to the Android operating system, which is used on more than 3 billion active devices. With the release of the third beta, Android 15 has now reached platform stability, which means that developers can now integrate new features with their applications that are available ahead of the release of Android 15.
Android 15 Beta 3 Features
Google is now rolling out Android 15 Beta 3 to its smartphone models ranging from Pixel 6, Pixel 6a and Pixel 6 Pro to the new Pixel 8, Pixel 8a and Pixel 8 Pro. Users can also install the Android 15 Beta 3 release on their Pixel Fold and Pixel tablets. The new beta release brings the June 2024 security patch, just like the stable version of Android 14 that was rolled out to users earlier this month along with new features. Meanwhile, Google Play Services has been updated to version 24.16.17 on Android 15 Beta 3.
What’s new in Android 15 Beta 3
Unlike the previous version, Google has listed to improve only one user-facing feature that is part of the Android 15 Beta 3 release. After updating to the third beta, users will be able to login to apps with a single tap using a passkey. Google says Android 15 will introduce a card that informs users that they can use their fingerprint or facial recognition to log in to apps, making the login process easier.
Another improvement coming with Android 15 beta 3 is the ability to see passkeys and Sign in with Google options along with saved logins in the suggestion row, above the keyboard. According to the company, these options will also be shown in a drop-down menu in the password field.
Meanwhile, 9to5Google spotted an improved wallpaper editor for the Pixel Fold that lets you preview both displays before applying the wallpaper, as well as a new adaptive screen timeout option that turns off the screen when not in use. Apart from this, the new beta release shows the full volume menu without the option to minimize and screenshot previews now show above the buttons on Android 15 beta 3.
How to download Android 15 Beta 3
According to Google, if you have enrolled your Google Pixel phone or tablet in the company’s beta program, you will automatically receive the over-the-air update in the coming days. If you want to manually check for the Android 15 Beta 3 update, you need to open the Settings app, then tap System, Software Update, System Update, Check for Update. After the update is installed, you will need to reboot to complete the process.
You can also flash factory images of the Android 5 Beta 3 update on your device, or test the new beta version in an emulator if you don’t have a Pixel device. As beta updates are less stable than standard software releases, it is not recommended to install them on your primary device.
