DA Hike: State government employees and pensioners have received an increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief as a gift. The state government issued a notification on Tuesday, implementing a 4% hike in the DA. It has been stated that this decision will be effective from April 1, 2024.
An announcement from the State Finance Department revealed that this decision was initially set to be implemented from May 1. However, the enhanced Dearness Allowance (DA) will now be disbursed to government employees and pensioners alongside their salaries in July. To calculate, consider an existing salary of around Rs. 35,000 per employee.
Previously, he received a Dearness Allowance of 10%, amounting to Rs. 3,500. However, following the state government’s decision to increase it to 14%, his total salary will now be Rs. 35,910, which includes Rs. 4,410 as Dearness Allowance.
An employee currently earns a monthly salary of Rs. 100,000. They receive an additional Rs. 10,000 as Dearness Allowance at a rate of 10%. With the Dearness Allowance rising to 14%, they will now receive Rs. 12,600 as Dearness Allowance, resulting in an additional Rs. 2,600 per month. Consequently, their total monthly salary will increase to Rs. 102,600.
14 lakh state employees will benefit
This decision by the West Bengal government is set to benefit around 1.4 million employees, encompassing staff from all schools, colleges, universities, public sector companies, and pensioners. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has raised the Dearness Allowance (DA) twice in 2024.
Initially, the state government increased DA in January, and later announced an additional increment during the budget session in February. Consequently, state employees will now receive a 14% DA.
