The application process for CGHS has been updated. Central government employees must now apply online for their CGHS card. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) has released guidelines for issuing CGHS cards to central government employees and pensioners.
CGHS New Rules: The application rules for the CGHS card have been updated. Central government employees are now required to apply online for their CGHS cards. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) has provided guidelines for issuing CGHS cards to central government employees and pensioners. An office memorandum from June 27, 2024, mentioned that due to technical changes in the CGHS payment methods, users were given guidelines for issuing CGHS cards to employees and pensioners. Central government employees and pensioners must follow the new online process to apply for a CGHS card.
According to the office memorandum, central government employees in service are required to apply online for new CGHS cards. They must generate a temporary reference number online at www.cghs.nic.in. After filling out and submitting the form available on the website, they should print the online application letter and submit the hard copy to their respective departments.
Documents Central Government Employee needs to submit along with the application letter to apply for CGHS card
- Proof of age of son (if son is dependent)
- Self attested copy of disability certificate issued by Medical Board of any Government Hospital (in case of dependent son aged 25 years or above)
- Salary slip of the employee
- Address proof
- Documents proving dependency of family members (where applicable)
- Copy of ID proof of dependent family members (Passport, PAN Card, Aadhaar, Voter ID Card).
If a central government employee has an existing CGHS card, they need to submit a self-attested photocopy of the old CGHS card along with the application form. Definition of family to apply for CGHS benefits:.
Spouse (first wife only)
- An employee has the option to include dependent parents or dependent parents-in-law.
- In case the adoptive father has more than one wife, then only the first wife.
- Includes legally adopted children, step children and children taken as wards, subject to the following conditions:
i) Son: Till he starts earning or till he attains the age of 25 years.
ii) Daughter: Till she starts earning or till she gets married, irrespective of age limit, whichever is earlier
iii) Son: Suffering from any kind of permanent disability (physical or mental) as defined below: Irrespective of age limit.
iv) Dependent divorced or separated/widowed daughters from their husbands and dependent unmarried/divorced, widowed sisters: Irrespective of age limit.
iv) Dependent divorced or separated from their husbands, widowed daughters and dependent unmarried/divorced, separated from their husbands/widowed sisters: Irrespective of age limit.
v) Dependent minor brothers: Till the age of majority.
vi) Dependent minor children of widowed/separated daughters: Till the age of majority.
