The company has also given details of the new feature in a blog post. In the screenshot shared in the blog post, you can see the options of Favorites Chat Filter and Favorite in Calls.
The update will reach all users soon
The Favorites in Chats filter is present between the All, Unread and Groups filters given above in the chat list screen. At the same time, Favorites will be listed above Recent in the Calls tab. The company is rolling out this latest update in phases. In such a situation, it will reach every user in the next few days. If you want, you can check the new update of WhatsApp by opening Google Play Store or App Store in your phone. Keep in mind that even after installing the update, it may take some time for this feature to reflect in the app.
Use the new favorite filter like this
1- After installing the latest update, open WhatsApp and look for the new favorite filter at the top of the chat screen.
2- If this feature has arrived on your device, tap on it.
3- Select the contact or group by tapping on Add Favorite here.
4- You will have to do the same process to add favorites in the Calls tab.
5- You can also remove a contact or group at any time in the favorite filter.
