Most people believe that only VVIP, leaders and ministers’ tickets are confirmed through quota. This is not true, there are many such quotas in railways, using which a common man’s ticket can also be confirmed.

But, most people believe that only the tickets of VVIPs, leaders and ministers are confirmed through the quota. This is not so, there are many such quotas in railways, using which the ticket of a common man can also be confirmed.
Confirmed ticket is available through quota
Ordinary passengers can also get confirmed tickets in trains by making reservations under these quotas (Railway Quota). The rules that apply for making reservations under the normal process are also applicable for making reservations under the quota. Documents related to the quota category you fall under have to be submitted as proof.
Online booking (Train Ticket online booking) can also be done under different quotas. Railways also gives concession on tickets in some categories. There is also a quota for passengers suffering from serious diseases like cancer or other similar diseases.
SS: Senior Citizen Quota
Who gets it- Senior Citizen Quota is given to a male passenger above 60 years of age or a female passenger above 58 years of age.
What will be required- For this quota, the passenger will have to submit his/her birth or senior citizen certificate.
HQ: High Official or Headquarters Quota
Who gets it- Railway officials, bureaucrats, high rank officers and other VIPs are allowed to travel under this quota.
What will be required- Proof of holding the relevant post has to be given. This quota is available on first come, first serve and seniority basis.
FT: Foreign Tourist Quota
Who gets it- This quota is given to people coming from abroad.
What will be required- Passport, visa and ID proof of their country.
DF: Defence quota
Who gets it- Army (Navy, Air Force and Army), any special force like CRPF or current or retired employees of Indian Defence Services get this quota.
What will be required- Defence ID proof and number or warrant or Form D.
PH: Parliament House quota
Who gets it- Parliament members get this quota. Ministers of central or state governments. Supreme Court and High Court judges and MLAs can also travel in this quota.
What will be required- ID card or certificate issued by the government related to the post.
LD: Ladies Quota
Who gets it- Women above 45 years of age. There is no age restriction in case of pregnant women.
Trains which have 6 or more seats under ladies quota. There is no age restriction.
HP: Handicap Quota
Who gets it- This quota is given to physically handicapped passengers with 40% or more percentage.
What will be required- Handicap certificate issued by the railways.
Under this quota, at least 2 seats per coach in trains are reserved for handicapped people. Tickets booked under this quota cost up to 75% less fare.
DP: Duty Pass Quota
Who gets it- This quota is given to railway employees who travel only for official work.
What will be required- Copy of pass and on duty proof.
Classwise, 1AC, Executive Class Chair Car, 2AC, 3AC, Chair Car, Sleeper, and Second Sleeper have 4, 4, 6, 16, 4, 20 and 20 seats respectively in most trains under this quota.
RS: Road Side or Remote Location Quota
Reservation is done under this quota between big stations which are not connected to the computerized network (Passenger Reservation System). Most express and mail trains have separate seats under this quota.
RE: Railway Employee or Privilege Quota
Who gets it- Railway employees and their families for non-official travel.
What will be required- Copy of Railway Pass or Privilege Pass.
YU: Youth quota
Who gets it- Unemployed people between 15 and 45 years of age.
What will be required- Birth certificate, certificate issued under NREGA or by government employment exchange. Yuva Express trains with this quota are running on many routes in the country.
