The Yogi Adityanath government of Uttar Pradesh has extended the registration deadline for the free electricity scheme for farmers. Earlier this deadline was 30 June. But now farmers have time till 15 July to register. The purpose of this extension is to benefit as many farmers as possible who need free electricity for irrigation.
Free Electricity: Till now only 80 thousand farmers have registered for this scheme. The Electricity Consumer Forum had requested the Electricity Corporation to extend the time limit and relax the conditions. Forum President Awadhesh Verma said that about 14 lakh farmers are eligible for this scheme. But due to strict conditions many farmers are not able to register.
Verma said that many such conditions have been imposed by the Electricity Corporation to avail the free electricity scheme. Due to which farmers are facing some difficulty in registering. He urged the government to extend the registration period by at least two months and relax these conditions.
The Consumer Council also demanded 24-hour power supply in Uttar Pradesh. He argued that abolishing the roster system would ensure equal access to electricity to all consumers in the state. The council believes that this will greatly benefit both urban and rural areas.
Verma further said that it would be beneficial to extend the order for 24-hour supply till June and eventually make it permanent. This move is considered necessary to improve agricultural productivity and overall quality of life in rural areas.
The government’s decision to extend the registration deadline reflects its commitment to address these concerns. The goal behind giving more time is to ensure that more number of farmers can benefit from this scheme.
