WhatsApp has once again taken a big action in India and banned the accounts of millions of users. WhatsApp has blocked more than 12 lakh of these accounts without any user reporting them. Apart from this, the company has settled record grievances for the first time.
WhatsApp has once again banned the accounts of millions of Indian users. Meta’s instant messaging platform has taken this strict action in the month of May. The social media platform has taken this action in India under the new IT Rules 2021. The Monthly Compliance Report released by the company states that the accounts of 66,20,000 Indian users have been banned in May 2024, out of which 12,55,000 accounts have been blocked before any user reported them.
More than 13 thousand grievances reported
The company said in its monthly compliance report that a total of 13,367 grievances were reported in the month of May under the new IT rules 2021. The messaging platform, which has a user base of more than 55 crores in India, said that out of more than 13 thousand grievances, action has been taken on a record 31 grievances. Here action means that WhatsApp has taken action to eliminate these grievances. At the same time, the company has received 11 orders from the Grievance Appellate Committee.
WhatsApp has assured that it is transparent about its actions in India and the interest of the user. This transparency will also be seen in future compliance reports. Earlier, the company had banned the accounts of a total of 71 lakh Indian users in April 2024. In April, the messaging app received a total of 10,554 grievances i.e. complaints. In April, action was taken on a record 11 of these complaints.
For what reasons does an account get banned?
WhatsApp or any social media platform can ban any user’s account if it does not comply with the company’s policy. Apart from this, an account can also be banned if it is used to spread rumours, is involved in fraudulent activities or violates any other policy. However, if the account is banned, you can go to WhatsApp support and request to unban the account.
