Delhi Metro is going to give big news about the extension soon. The work of DMRC’s Phase 4 Metro Corridor is almost complete now. The Krishna Park Extension Corridor is going to open from Janakpuri West in the month of August. It is believed that the metro will start running on this route after two months. DMRC is preparing to open three corridors with 65 km of new lines for passengers. According to Delhi Metro, the objective of this new project is to increase connectivity and reduce passenger congestion.
Three new route extensions by 2026
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation on Sunday, July 1, announced that it aims to open all three corridors under its fourth phase of extension by 2026. The extension plan will have 65 km of new lines.
According to the DMRC, work on the fourth phase of the extension began in December 2019 but it has been completed with a slight delay. The progress of the work was significantly affected for about three years from 2020 to 2022 due to the Covid pandemic and delay in getting permission to cut trees. The railway operator also said that they have been working for the last one and a half to two years, and have set a target of 2026 in a period of 4 years.
Currently, more than 50 percent of the work on all three corridors has been completed. About 80 percent of the civil work on the Majlis Park-Maujpur section has already been completed.
Tunneling work is in progress on various sections of the Aerocity-Tughlakabad (Golden Line) and Janakpuri West-RK Ashram Marg (Magenta Line) corridors. This will expand the Delhi Metro significantly and provide better facilities to passengers.
