OTT Platforms Rules: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has given good news to all OTT platforms including Amazon Prime, Jio Cinema, Netflix, and others. There is no need to regulate all these OTT platforms.
TRAI issued inputs for the formulation of the National Broadcasting Policy-2024, stating that there is no need to regulate all these OTT platforms. Moving forward in its recommendations, TRAI further stated that OTT is a growing sector with numerous possibilities to contribute to economic development.
TRAI gave this suggestion
The telecom regulator emphasized the need to focus on organizing the OTT sector to encourage its business operations. It advocated granting EOIs a foundational framework as part of boosting them. The regulator discussed establishing growth-oriented policies and regulations through data-driven governance, sharing a roadmap for the next ten years.
Additionally, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has articulated a vision for the National Broadcast Policy (NBP), aimed at promoting a competitive, affordable, and universally accessible ecosystem for the progressive development of the broadcast sector and meeting diverse consumer demands.
This initiative aims to bolster flexible indigenous infrastructure development, adopt emerging technologies, and spur employment opportunities. TRAI’s release of the NBP 2024 focuses on boosting the distribution of Indian content at local and global levels, thereby enhancing the quality of content for television and OTT broadcast services.
Recommendation of rating system
TRAI has recommended to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to establish a transparent and credible rating system for television, radio, and OTT broadcasting services. In its inputs for formulating the National Broadcasting Policy-2024, TRAI suggested the need to align India’s existing audience measurement systems.
